Founded by Concepción Castro and her sisters, on February 17, 1932. It was then the first female sextet.

ANACAONA is today considered one of the main exponents of salsa music and was declared Cultural Heritage of Cuba , known as ” The Women Insigne orchestra of Cuba ” . The orchestra has participated in films like ” La bella del Alhambra ” director Enrique Pineda Barnet, ” Vidas Paralelas ” by Pastor Vega and the Cuban- Swiss co-production, “Barrio Negro ” and documentary ” La ruta del ritmo ” of director Harry Belafonte , ” Anacaona , 70 years afterwards” Jorge Aguirre , and a musical documentary by NHK of Japan.
